Studio Mini Session - Tang Family

Winter Studio Mini Session in Waukesha

Studio minis are a chance to capture some fun moments, especially when we’re in the middle of winter in Wisconsin! Little sister made her debut in winter and it was so fun meeting up with the Tang family again but in the studio.

We make sure to capture those “everyone-looking-at-the-camera-smiling” shots, but also just have fun and capture true to life moments and things you won’t want to forget about these years of raising babies <3

Waukesha Studio Newborn Photography

This sweet family welcomed another little girl, baby Elle! Two years ago I captured big sister Navy’s newborn session within their home, and this time we arranged to photograph their newest daughter at my studio in Waukesha. Even big brother Dragon made it for a few photos before he sadly passed later that week.

I love watching families grow each year, it’s an honor to be able to capture these memories for you!

These photos simply speak for themselves, this sweet baby girl is loved so much!

Baby Kaisley joined this sweet family, who’s mama is also a local photographer, and it was such a joy photographing these memories for them. As a mama and photographer, usually we’re on the other end of the camera - but these moments simply go by so fast, it’s so important to take time and have these memories frozen in time.

Kaisley’s parents worked so hard on her nursery and it’s so classic and timeless, definitely one of my favorite nursery’s I’ve photographed in!

Spring Style Guide 2019

Spring is just days away!

While we wait for spring to arrive, I wanted to create some spring outfit inspiration for you to help as you plan for your session. Outfits can really impact how your photos look, you want to love the clothes you’re wearing, but you also want them to appear timeless. These outfits are to be used as a guide, it doesn't mean you need to follow them exactly - maybe you have similar pieces in your closet already. It's all about pairing neutrals with a hint of color (usually a muted pastel color, think: light, rose-y pink, soft olive greens, light blues).

My best tip is to start with one outfit, usually moms or your daughters. Find a pretty floral print that you love for yourself or your daughter (I only suggest one floral print). Then look at the colors in that dress and build from there. For dads and sons I usually recommend sticking to very classic, neutrals such as white henleys or button downs and a pair of khakis or light gray pants.

In Spring, Fall and Winter I always suggest adding layers to your outfits as well. Layers photograph really nice and it also helps incase the weather turns out to be cooler than planned. Layers like cardigans, jackets, vests are the perfect finishing touch! Don’t forget bowties, hats, headbands, and cute shoes!

Below I’ve built four basic looks and then included shopping links for all the groupings. Happy outfit-planning!

Lifestyle Newborn Photography in Sussex, WI

This new family of four welcomed handsome Sullivan into their family in January. Despite the negative temps, we stayed warm and cozy inside their gorgeous light-filled home to capture these fleeting newborn memories.

I always strive to capture those perfect “everyone-looking-and-smiling” portraits, but let’s also be real with two kids under two, we definitely have fun and I love to capture those moments as well… those are the real life moments with a newborn and another child. One day you’ll look back on these images and say “those were the days” <3

Waukesha Studio Newborn Photography

It’s easy to see why newborn sessions are just about the sweetest photo sessions ever! Watching mom and dad star-y eyed (and maybe a little sleepy) over their newest bundle of joy is so fun to watch and capture on camera. The endless kisses, forehead rubs and smiles make my job so easy.

For Hudson’s newborn session, we met at my new studio location in Waukesha. The clean, white, natural-light filled space made it the perfect spot to photograph this new family of three for the first time. The simple and clean keeps the focus of these images to these three, and with the studio so warm and cozy, he was happy and let out quite a few smiles!

Welcome Hudson <3

Fall Family Photos in Waukesha, WI

One of my big rules for family sessions is to leave the stress at home, and come to your photo session to have fun! Kids sense when you’re stressed out, and begging them to freeze and smile doesn’t always work for everyone…. so instead, we have fun and capture those genuine smiles and laughter.

I’m always up for any games the kids want to play whether it be racing, running under the blankets, getting thrown in the air, I’m game for anything! Scroll through this session and you’ll see this family brought the FUN!

The Potasek's at the Orchard

Apple Orchard Family Photography in New Berlin, WI

It’s such an honor to photograph a family again and again - knowing they trust you to capture important moments in their family’s lives. It’s also so fun to watch them grow up. It all started over two years ago, with big brother’s newborn photos, his six month photos, his one year photos, and then little sister’s newborn photos, her six month photos and now one year photos!

This time we met up at a local orchard (Weston’s Antique Apples) that had special meaning to this family - they also love to pick apples together in the fall, so what better than a location other than an apple orchard. We captured some family smiles, but also just had fun exploring the orchard, capturing memories and Cara at age one <3

OUTFIT INSPIRATION FOR FALL FAMILY PHOTOS

As sad as I am to see summer go (I will forever be a summer-lovin' girl, I'm so excited to photograph some past and new clients this fall! To help you have the best experience I've created some fall outfit inspiration to help you plan for your upcoming session!

These outfits are to be used as a guide, it doesn't mean you need to follow them to a T, and you maybe have similar pieces in your closet already. It's all about pairing neutrals with a hint of color (usually a muted color, think: whites, tans, mustard, muted wine colors, etc). In Spring, Fall and Winter I always suggest adding layers to your outfits as well. Layers photograph really nice and it also helps incase the weather turns out to be cooler than planned. Layers like cardigans, jackets, vests are the perfect finishing touch!

The end goal of your photos isn't to look back in 10 years and say "ah, what did I wear!" it's about the love and connection with your family that I want to be the center focus, so wearing something timeless helps achieve that.

Finding the perfect outfit for your family session may take a little bit of work, but you probably have great pieces already in your closet that could work together! Also, use these tips below to help formulate a plan. If you need help deciding what to wear or want feedback, I'd love to help with that, just send me an email!

5 BASIC TIPS FOR PLANNING FAMILY OUTFITS

1. Coordinate your outfits by finding a color palette you love and finding pieces that compliment one another. Avoid matchy-matchy and black as your main color. Soft, muted colors and neutral colors look great for my style of photography, please avoid bright/neon hues.

2. Layer and add accessories with a hat, headbands, necklace, jacket, or vests. Layers especially helps when the weather turns out to be cooler than planned (good ol' Wisconsin).

3. Wear clothes that are fashionable, yet still functional for the location. Keep in mind we will be moving around!

4. When it comes to patterns, a good rule of thumb is have one or two patterned outfit for every three people included in the session. Floral prints, polka dots, plaids work great! Also, avoid large logos. I typically like to start by finding a floral dress for mom or a daughter and then building the rest of the "ensemble" surrounding that piece, pulling colors out of the dress.

5. Shoes! Remember that you'll want them to be comfortable as we move around, but please stay away from character themed shoes, athletic shoes, and bulky soles.

6. If you are looking to purchase new clothes, my favorite is Old Navy, as they are very affordable, coordinate well from baby sizes to adults sizes and have timeless pieces that photograph well.

Beach Family Photography in Waukesha

Nothing says summer more, than a family beach photo session! I love these types of sessions because you are remembering a certain season in life, like how much your boys loved the beach and getting soaked at the end - summer memories are my favorite!

Summer mini sessions are my favorites, your kids get to stay up late and you get to have some genuine fun, all while I capture it on my camera!

Sweet baby Lydia joined this party to make five for this family in June! Big sister could not have been more excited to share a room with her and finally have a sister. The endless sleepovers and built in best-friends I'm sure will eventually make her forget all the clothes sharing they may fight about over the years - having three sisters, I know!

So thankful for beautiful families who allow me to capture so many different moments in their lives!

Spring Blooming Magnolia Family
Photography in Pewaukee

Spring this year took FOREVER to come, right?! Snow in late April meant that a lot of my spring mini sessions got pushed back a few weeks because waiting for these spring blooming magnolia trees was definitely worth it!

So fun meeting up with the Koper family for Spring Family Mini sessions, I first photographed them a few years ago before their gorgeous baby girl was born. I love watching families grow, and makes me so happy to know they loved their images when they come back year after year <3

Spring Apple Blossom Maternity Photography
in Pewaukee, WI

Is there a better sign of new life in Spring than apple blossoms? Just like these beautiful apple trees blossom after a LONG winter in Wisconsin, so does this gorgeous mama after a long pregnancy. My sister and her gorgeous family met up at a local apple orchard to snap some maternity photos before their fourth little girl made her debut.

One Year Milestone Photo Session in Waukesha

Love love love when I get to see my newborn clients all grown up (well, as grown up as you can be at one years old). I had the honor of capturing this family of three when Navy was just born, along with their pup named Dragon. And luckily we had a 50 degree day in March and was able to celebrate her turning one years old at Retzer Nature Center.

At one years old, I'd say Navy loves clapping, kisses from mama, and giving hugs to daddy - sounds like most one year olds I've met ;)

Barrett at 7 Months

Lifestyle Milestone Baby Session in Oconomowoc

The greatest complement I receive is when people invite me back into their lives to document milestone after milestone, it means they truly love the moments I capture for them. I first met this sweet family documenting big sister at 7 months old, then again at one year, then again when mama was pregnant with this little guy, then fall family photos and now AGAIN for little Barrett's 7 month milestone.

How CUTE is this little guy, his family is obsessed with him and I think these images clearly show that. And one of the other greatest parts of this "job" that I have is seeing those memories plastered all over their walls in their homes - this mama made sure I saw her new gallery wall in her kitchen which was filled with moments from our sessions. Seriously the best <3
