The Potasek's at the Orchard

Apple Orchard Family Photography in New Berlin, WI

It’s such an honor to photograph a family again and again - knowing they trust you to capture important moments in their family’s lives. It’s also so fun to watch them grow up. It all started over two years ago, with big brother’s newborn photos, his six month photos, his one year photos, and then little sister’s newborn photos, her six month photos and now one year photos!

This time we met up at a local orchard (Weston’s Antique Apples) that had special meaning to this family - they also love to pick apples together in the fall, so what better than a location other than an apple orchard. We captured some family smiles, but also just had fun exploring the orchard, capturing memories and Cara at age one <3

OUTFIT INSPIRATION FOR FALL FAMILY PHOTOS

As sad as I am to see summer go (I will forever be a summer-lovin' girl, I'm so excited to photograph some past and new clients this fall! To help you have the best experience I've created some fall outfit inspiration to help you plan for your upcoming session!

These outfits are to be used as a guide, it doesn't mean you need to follow them to a T, and you maybe have similar pieces in your closet already. It's all about pairing neutrals with a hint of color (usually a muted color, think: whites, tans, mustard, muted wine colors, etc). In Spring, Fall and Winter I always suggest adding layers to your outfits as well. Layers photograph really nice and it also helps incase the weather turns out to be cooler than planned. Layers like cardigans, jackets, vests are the perfect finishing touch!

The end goal of your photos isn't to look back in 10 years and say "ah, what did I wear!" it's about the love and connection with your family that I want to be the center focus, so wearing something timeless helps achieve that.

Finding the perfect outfit for your family session may take a little bit of work, but you probably have great pieces already in your closet that could work together! Also, use these tips below to help formulate a plan. If you need help deciding what to wear or want feedback, I'd love to help with that, just send me an email!

5 BASIC TIPS FOR PLANNING FAMILY OUTFITS

1. Coordinate your outfits by finding a color palette you love and finding pieces that compliment one another. Avoid matchy-matchy and black as your main color. Soft, muted colors and neutral colors look great for my style of photography, please avoid bright/neon hues.

2. Layer and add accessories with a hat, headbands, necklace, jacket, or vests. Layers especially helps when the weather turns out to be cooler than planned (good ol' Wisconsin).

3. Wear clothes that are fashionable, yet still functional for the location. Keep in mind we will be moving around!

4. When it comes to patterns, a good rule of thumb is have one or two patterned outfit for every three people included in the session. Floral prints, polka dots, plaids work great! Also, avoid large logos. I typically like to start by finding a floral dress for mom or a daughter and then building the rest of the "ensemble" surrounding that piece, pulling colors out of the dress.

5. Shoes! Remember that you'll want them to be comfortable as we move around, but please stay away from character themed shoes, athletic shoes, and bulky soles.

6. If you are looking to purchase new clothes, my favorite is Old Navy, as they are very affordable, coordinate well from baby sizes to adults sizes and have timeless pieces that photograph well.

Beach Family Photography in Waukesha

Nothing says summer more, than a family beach photo session! I love these types of sessions because you are remembering a certain season in life, like how much your boys loved the beach and getting soaked at the end - summer memories are my favorite!

Summer mini sessions are my favorites, your kids get to stay up late and you get to have some genuine fun, all while I capture it on my camera!

Spring Blooming Magnolia Family
Photography in Pewaukee

Spring this year took FOREVER to come, right?! Snow in late April meant that a lot of my spring mini sessions got pushed back a few weeks because waiting for these spring blooming magnolia trees was definitely worth it!

So fun meeting up with the Koper family for Spring Family Mini sessions, I first photographed them a few years ago before their gorgeous baby girl was born. I love watching families grow, and makes me so happy to know they loved their images when they come back year after year <3

Spring Apple Blossom Maternity Photography
in Pewaukee, WI

Is there a better sign of new life in Spring than apple blossoms? Just like these beautiful apple trees blossom after a LONG winter in Wisconsin, so does this gorgeous mama after a long pregnancy. My sister and her gorgeous family met up at a local apple orchard to snap some maternity photos before their fourth little girl made her debut.

One Year Milestone Photo Session in Waukesha

Love love love when I get to see my newborn clients all grown up (well, as grown up as you can be at one years old). I had the honor of capturing this family of three when Navy was just born, along with their pup named Dragon. And luckily we had a 50 degree day in March and was able to celebrate her turning one years old at Retzer Nature Center.

At one years old, I'd say Navy loves clapping, kisses from mama, and giving hugs to daddy - sounds like most one year olds I've met ;)

Lifestyle Milestone Baby Session in Oconomowoc

The greatest complement I receive is when people invite me back into their lives to document milestone after milestone, it means they truly love the moments I capture for them. I first met this sweet family documenting big sister at 7 months old, then again at one year, then again when mama was pregnant with this little guy, then fall family photos and now AGAIN for little Barrett's 7 month milestone.

How CUTE is this little guy, his family is obsessed with him and I think these images clearly show that. And one of the other greatest parts of this "job" that I have is seeing those memories plastered all over their walls in their homes - this mama made sure I saw her new gallery wall in her kitchen which was filled with moments from our sessions. Seriously the best <3

In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Photography in Tosa

Beautiful baby Rowan was born shortly before Christmas! I'm not sure what can make the holidays more exciting than a brand new baby! I love lifestyle in-home newborn sessions because we can capture and remember the exact time of the year they brought their sweet baby girl home, and all the crazy cold days to follow where they stayed home and snuggled forever <3

We also made sure to capture some special moments by their Christmas tree in their living room, but all the gray, whites and floral prints in her nursery and home, made my light and airy heart burst.

At Home with Quinn

Home Lifestyle Family Photography in Pewaukee

When the weather turns cold (or even in the summertime), I love to head inside client's homes to photograph them where they spend most of their days. There's something so fun and memorable about having your home be the backdrop to your photos. We'll be able to capture some of you and your families favorite activities and they'll some day love to look back at what their home used to look like <3

Loved capturing sweet little Quinn in her Pewaukee home with her parents and puppy Lola!

Fall Family Photography in Delafield, Wisconsin

One of my absolute favorite parts about photography is getting to meet awesome and sweet families, become friends with them and then watch and document how their family grows. This family I've photographed more than others (well besides my own), you may remember Charlotte at six months, Charlotte at one year, then when they were expecting sweet Barrett, and now as a family of four <3

We ended up having our baby boys just days apart, and it's been fun to have another mama to share motherhood with, as well as capture these sweet, but fleeting moments. I'm always so honored when clients pick me to share these moments with them.

Fall Mini Family Session in Brookfield, Wisconsin

Mini sessions have been in full force this fall, every other Sunday night! Thankfully we've had beautiful weather, light and fun families! Families like these make my job sooo easy.

It's also been great seeing past families again, 95% of my mini sessions this year are repeat clients, so watching their families expand and grow is so much fun!

Fall Family Mini Session in Brookfield, Wisconsin

Many times when I photograph families, I've never met them before and I slowly learn about their family and what makes them unique. But this family I've had the honor of becoming friends with them over the past few years. They are the kindest people with the biggest hearts. They choose to live outside their comfort zones to make a place for kids in foster care to call home and then love them like crazy.  So glad I could capture their crazy in love family this fall <3

Love to watch my families grow! I first photographed this sweet family when Charlotte was just six months old (she was such a little doll!), then we celebrated her first birthday with a milestone session, and now documenting adding a baby boy to their family! I'm so sad I won't be able to photograph their new little guy since our little guy will be arriving within days of each other. <3

Beach + Sunset + Cute Family of Three = LOVE! It was so great to see this family again, after I shot Nora's newborn photos last year. She had just turned one year old and was mastering walking. So crazy how fast a year can fly by!

There's a little bit more "pressure to perform" when you know the family you are photographing! I met Katie and her kids last fall after we set-up a play date. We both were local photographers in Pewaukee and had girls similar in age. Em and Lilly became instant friends and so did Katie and I. It's been so great to share ideas and location scout with her. So thankful she trusts me to capture some sweet moments for her family - it's always a treat to get in the frame when you are a photographer and usually the one behind the camera!

This sweet family of five is growing by one more come December!

Jamie is a fellow Pewaukee photographer and we've gotten to know each other over the past year. It's been great making community rather than compeition with some of the other local mom photographers in the area. It's fun to bounce ideas off of each other, share location ideas, and for referrals when one of us is swamped.

So fun to do this family session for them as the cherish these moments of a family of five before they become six!

Spring Family Mini Session in Waukesha, WI

Love seeing repeat clients again! Last spring I photographed this super sweet family while baby boy was still in mama's tummy! So fun to see them as a family of four, especially since we'll be welcoming a baby boy into our family in a few days!

Also, isn't the vintage tricycle they brought so much fun! I love when families bring special things to incorporate into their sessions, especially if they have meaning <3

Sweet little Lenny turned ONE! She had such a spunky little personality, loved to laugh and stick out her tongue at us, but was the sweetest! Even grandma came along to the photoshoot since she's a huge part of Soleen's life! So fun capturing these moments for this family.

Waiting for Baby Neumann

Hartland Lifestyle Maternity & Family Photography

The Neumann invited me to their gorgeous home to document the last days of their family of five, before they become six. Baby Neumann will be a surprise, as the girls are hoping for another girl, and little man is hoping for a brother!

I love incorporating some daily activities into lifestyle sessions, so for this family, tea parties, dolls, and even shooting some hoops on their basketball court! Can't wait to meet their new addition in a few months!

Lifestyle In-Home Newborn Photography in Milwaukee

This little man has stolen the hearts of his parents, doggy, and grandma (who happened to be helping out while we did Dillon's session). His family was so excited for his arrival as so much of his nursery was handmade with so much love. We made sure to capture some fun memories such as the quilt that was specially made as well as a book Andrea's daddy read to her when she was a baby, now reading to her own little guy.

Baby Dillon you are so loved <3
